“That’s sweet but you should sleep,” he smiled kissing her pouty lips. “You’ll see me in the morning.” He would be probably be sleeping but at least he’ll be there.
“Ha, and what? See you sleeping?” She asked with a laugh. It was no secret he wasn’t a morning person.
Later that night when Damon left for his shift, Elena decided to go back to her house to pick up some things to bring over to the boarding house. She didn’t want to go into her house, but at least Jenna would be there. After packing some clothes and a few things, she spent some time with her before heading back to the boarding house. She checked the mail before she went inside and didn’t open any of it until she was in Damon’s room. Just as she set the mail down, she was confused to see a letter addressed to her with just her name on it. With hesitation, she opened it and was shocked to see what was inside.
Wishing you my condolences on the recent passing of your brother, Jeremy. Congratulations on the baby and your recent engagement.
Until next time,
It wasn’t sadness or fear that rippled through her, but anger. She crumpled the note up and threw it in the trash before hopping into her car and driving down to the hospital. She was completely numb to all that had happened and acted as if she didn’t have a care in the world.
“I have a shift tonight actually.” He answered carrying their stuff inside. “But its only a half shift, I’ll be back later tonight.”
“Oh” Elena pouted slightly. “Well, I work in the morning but I’ll wait up if you’d like” she smiled. Little did Elena know that their lives returning to normal wouldn’t be so simple.
Damon smiled and got off the couch, and followed her to the bedroom.
The flight was rather quick, a little saddening to leave sunny Florida and return to icky weather Mystic Falls. He sighed inwardly and took there luggage out of the car.
The sky was rather dark and gloomy and it was surprisingly not that warm outside. “When do you have to be at work?” She asked. Now that they were back, it was time to get back to their old lives.
“Of course it is, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He reassured with a smile and another quick kiss.
Elena smiled and kissed his lips chastely before getting up and taking his hand. “Come on. It’s late and even if we have a late flight to catch tomorrow, I don’t want to sleep all morning” she teased, waggling her brows.
“Yeah. I think so,” he nodded. It’s not like Stefan was going to show himself after the whole stabbing incident. He could be at the bottom of the ocean and Damon wouldn’t care.
“And you’re sure this is what you want?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Maybe their lives would finally return to normal when they got back, at least as normal as they could be after everything.
“If we were going to move in together, where would we go?” Damon doubted that she wanted to continue living in the same house her brother was killed in. And did she really feel safe at the Salvatore house even after he had changed all the locks?
“Probably with you?” She suggested. It was hard enough to walk into her own room considering her own brother had been killed there. “I think I might sign the deed over to Jenna” she shrugged, looking up at him. “We’d be safe at the boarding house…right?”
“In the afternoon, so we can sleep in and have lunch before we go.” He answered intertwining there fingers together before kissing each of her fingers one by one. He stopped at the ring finger and nibbled on the tip lightly.
“So Mrs. soon to be Salvatore, what’s the first thing your going to do when we get back~?”
A soft giggle sounded from her as he nibbled the tip of her ring finger and she crinkled her nose cutely.
“I don’t know” she smiled. “Work?” She chuckled lightly. “But I think that there is something that we need to decide. Are we living apart until the wedding or..?” It was basically just her way of asking him if he wanted her to move in, even though they practically were living together all ready. Maybe she just wanted it to be official and not assumed.
“I wish we could.” Damon replied with a light chuckle. “We can always come back though.” He quickly added, thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to take a vacation when things get to wild in Mystic Falls. But they had to go back.
Elena frowned, but she understood. It was going to be hard going back to Mystic Falls after what happened. She wasn’t even sure if Klaus had been caught. “Yeah..” she trailed before sighing and kissing his cheek. “We’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. We can’t run away forever” she agreed as she settled into him some more. “What time is the flight?”
Something about the laugh he heard him made hum uneasy. It wasn’t like the Elena’s usual laugh, though he supposed in all fairness, with all that was going on she reserved the right to not sound entirely normal. Was she still upset with him for earlier… No, they had made up. She could always be regretting choosing him, which he wouldn’t entirely blame her for, but even that didn’t seem like it.
He wasn’t going to go up and hover over her, at least not quite yet, she had said she was going to take a shower. Maybe after she got a chance to settle in he’d go up and check how she was doing, if she was alright. While things hadn’t gone entirely terrible tonight, and had ended better than he ever imagined they could, it was still Mystic Falls. Anything could happen. It wasn’t until after a long moment of silence that Damon finally gave in to the protective side of him that was worrying about Elena. Making his way up to the bathroom, he knocked on the door. “Is everything alright, Elena?”
Shrugging out of her jacket, Elena glanced down at the crimson stain in her dress before glancing back up at herself in the mirror. As she unzipped her dress, she was slightly startled by the knock on the door, but relaxed at the sound of Damon’s voice. “Yes, I’m fine Damon” she replied coolly. She wasn’t keeping it from him, she just didn’t want to talk about it and be bombarded with questions if Stefan, Lexi, and Ric were there.
“Are you…” she sighed and just zipped up her dress again. Walking over to it, she cracked the door open slightly and looked at him. “Where is everyone?” She asked. “I’d rather talk to you without everybody eavesdropping again” she explained as she looked into his blue eyes. The house was quiet, but she didn’t want to be so sure. “The cure is gone, Damon.”
Damon smiled ad looked down at her bringing her even closer “I love you to elena. We have forever, and I will love you for that long even longer. You are mine, I won’t let you go ever!” Damon smiled as he kissed the top of her head then her lips. Then quickly moved away to put on some boxers then returning to being wrapped up in each others arms
As he moved away for his boxers, Elena leaned down off the bed to grab his shirt from the floor. She slid it on, buttoning it up but leaving a few near the top unbuttoned. “That’s the beauty of eternity” she smiled, leaning over to kiss his lips before she cuddled up next to him again.
